Job Candidate Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of planning and development, policies, and legal requirements related to NC General Statutes.
Thorough knowledge of local, state, and federal laws, regulations, zoning, land use, and other ordinances and codes, of the principles and practices of land use planning.
Considerable skill in the collection, analysis, and presentation of technical data and planning recommendations, and ability to coordinate public participation processes.
Must have the ability to prepare and maintain detailed and technical records; ability to research, collect and organize data.
Must be skilled in the use of standard office equipment including a personal computer and knowledge of application software packages (Microsoft Office Professional, ArcGIS).
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with community groups, federal, state, regional, and City officials, and the general public.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate large projects involving various interest groups and complete the project within established time frames.
Ability to supervise the work of professional, technical and support staff.
Ability to prepare comprehensive reports and studies.
Ability to express ideas effectively in oral and written forms and make effective public presentations.
Ability to provide leadership to committees and staff, facilitate meetings, build consensus, and work collaboratively with developers, City officials, and the community regarding development.
Must be willing to attend conferences and trainings to remain abreast of the latest planning trends and issues.
Graduation from an accredited college or university with Bachelor’s degree in Planning or closely related field with a minimum of five to seven years’ professional experience in public sector planning; or Master’s degree and more than three years’ experience in planning. AICP certification is strongly preferred.
