The Capital Area MPO is seeking a highly qualified professional to lead the implementation planning efforts for the Wake Transit program at the MPO. A successful tax referendum in Wake County in 2016 led to the implementation of a ½-cent sales tax devoted to transit in the County. This program is meant to implement the Wake Transit Plan over a ten year period, and conduct periodic updates to the plan. The MPO is responsible for multiple implementation elements for the Wake Transit program, including managing the development of the annual Wake Transit Work Program, implementing and managing the Community Funding Area program, staffing the Transit Plan Advisory Committee (TPAC), and managing various planning studies that focus on implementation of projects and programs under Wake Transit.

The successful applicant will have at least a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Master’s Degree preferred), and at least five years of progressively responsible experience in program management. Knowledge of the principles and practices of transportation and transit planning is helpful, and an understanding of the value of planning and the Wake Transit program is important.

Job Candidate Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Regional Planning, Transportation Planning, Public Administration, or other related field) Master’s Degree preferred and at least five years progressively responsible experience in program management. Successful employee will have experience in regional planning and project programming, and a thorough understanding of federal, state and local funding requirements. MPO experience desired.


An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
