JOB DESCRIPTION: Under general supervision, performs technical work in enforcing compliance with the County Code of Ordinances and Unified Development Ordinance. Inspects properties for compliance with applicable regulations; interprets, applies, and enforces regulations relating to land use and development; investigates and prepares cases; makes presentations to various boards and pursues legal remedies to bring violations into compliance. Reviews plans and specifications to ensure compliance with codes and ordinances, but must exercise independent judgment in applying these standards; works with the general public to answer development related questions; provides information and assistance to the public for obtaining proper permits, as well as compiles necessary information to complete the permit application process. Reports to the Planning and Community Development Director or their designee. Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including adding machines, typewriters, copiers, levels, measuring gauges, two-way radios, soil probes, etc. Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements are of those for Medium Work.


Job Candidate Qualifications

MINIMUM TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: High school graduation or equivalent and supplemented by specialized training and/or college level coursework in criminal justice, public administration, business administration or other related field or any equivalent combination of training, and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.

One year of work experience involving a high level of public contact including some experience interacting with the public in an enforcement, inspection, investigation or customer service capacity and the interpretation and application of statutes, codes and ordinances. Experience in the enforcement of local government codes is highly desirable.
