The Port St. Lucie is proud to offer the amenities of a big city with the comforts of a familiar hometown.The Deputy Building Official is under the general direction of the Building Code Administrator. The Building Department is comprised of five divisions including Plan Review, Licensing, Sign Inspection, Inspection, and Permitting and operates with an annual budget of roughly $7.5 million and 16 employees. The Deputy Building Official performs technical and administrative work in developing goals and objectives and in managing the function and operations of the department, providing managerial and professional support work in assisting the Director in the implementation and follow-up of designated projects. The Deputy Building Official also oversees the Inspection and Permitting divisions on a day-to-day basis.

The salary range for this position is $78,479.85 – $100,061.94 depending on qualifications and experience.

Job Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate must hold a bachelor’s degree public administration, urban planning, business administration, or a closely related field from an accredited four-year college or university, or have the ability to obtain the degree within eighteen (18) months from the date of hire. A minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible experience in the field of building construction, with five (5) years being in a management level position, is required. The selected candidate must have possession of State of Florida driver’s license, and maintenance of a clean driving record.
