The City of Burlington, Lead Planning Agency for the Burlington-Graham Metropolitan Planning Organization (BGMPO), seeks to hire a part-time Special Projects Intern to support its transportation planning functions.
The Special Projects Intern is expected to assist with data collection activities and analysis in the office and/or field, collect, enter, tabulate and analyze various other types of data, prepare brief memos explaining methodology and findings, assist with the preparation of new or existing reports, minutes and similar documents, conduct research as needed to assist senior staff on projects, and assist with the preparation of presentations and other community outreach activities. The primary responsibilities include assisting staff with content development and maintenance of the BGMPO website; obtaining, formatting and uploading content from member jurisdictions and assisting with contributing to social media content and public meetings. The Intern will assist completing other administrative duties as assigned. The Intern will gain insight and experience in the daily operations of a regional planning organization. The job posting will remain open until the position is filled.
Salary Range/Working Hours
The internship period is June 4 – August 4, 2018. Time period may be extended based on project tasks. The hours are flexible, weekdays between 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. including occasional evening meetings. The proposed hourly rate is $12 with 20 – 24 hours per week expected.
Job Candidate Qualifications
Prospective candidates should be college student or graduate from an accredited institution with major coursework in Business, Urban Planning, Supply Chain, or Transportation Planning. Candidates should have working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Applications and Social Media Platforms; the ability to operate standard office equipment; excellent written and oral communication skills; interpersonal relations; work independently in a professional environment; and the ability and desire to learn new skills.
Special requirements include a valid Driver’s License to perform a work-related task or activity. The successful candidate must pass the pre-employment drug screen and background screening process. Equal Opportunity Employer.
