Under the direction of the Current Planning Managers of the Planning Department, this professional level position is responsible for the administration of the Land Development Ordinance and other City adopted policies and ordinances as part of a multi-department team in the Development Services area. Primary duties in this position include the review and issuance of development related permits; determination of appropriate review processes based on stated development goals; determination of relevant zoning, site and land use information, including site or use specific standards and providing planning and development related assistance to the public and other City staff. The employee in this position will be a primary point of contact for parties interested in investing in the city and requires a strong emphasis on customer service, a high level of detail and strong organizational skills to manage multiple responsibilities simultaneously. The position also includes the consistent exercise of discretion and judgment. An AICP, CZO or other zoning or planning certification is preferred but will be required within one year of hire date. This position will require some work beyond the typical workday to complete time sensitive permits, development applications/permits, provide enhanced customer service and may require attendance at evening meetings. The job is NON-EXEMPT under FLSA. Salary $42,778.00 – $57,038.00 Annually

Job Candidate Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Planning, Urban Planning, Zoning, Public Administration, Political Science or Geography with 4 to 6 years of relevant experience in Planning, Zoning or the Public administration field.

Experience working with Microsoft Office, and ARC-GIS

Valid Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Planning, Public Administration, Political Science, Geography with 1 to 3 years of “related” experience in Planning, Zoning, public administration or the Public Administration field

Direct knowledge of local government development application / permit processes

Experience issuing permits or confirming compliance with local codes and ordinances

Current American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) or Certified Zoning Official (CZO) Certification
