Responsibilities include: provide assistance to the general public & decision makers; interact with the public to respond to questions/inquiries relating to zoning and/or land development within the City of Sanford, Lee County or the Town of Broadway; prepare zoning permits & approvals; conduct research & draft reports related to amendments to various codes/ordinances and/or land use & relating to annexation & other similar non-zoning issues plans; review site plans for development to ensure compliance with applicable ordinances; prepare & present staff reports to elected and appointed boards; prepare legal notices, public notices for land use applications; maintain records & files.

Job Candidate Qualifications

Requirements include:

general knowledge of the principles & practices of planning, the Unified Development Ordinance & related codes, rules & regulations; some knowledge of applicable State laws, guidelines, rules & regulations; prepare technical reports; thorough knowledge in preparing grant applications, requests for proposals, etc.; the use of standard office equipment and associated software; ability to communicate effectively in oral and written form, make arithmetic computations; maintain effective working relationships with associates. Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major coursework in urban planning, or related field and minimal experience in the planning profession. Candidate must possess a valid NC driver’s license.
