We are seeking a Planner II to be part of our Development Review Committee to perform complex professional work participating in a variety of assignments with a primary focus on development plan review, real estate plat review and application of Cary’s Land Development Ordinances. Position will require proficient written and oral communication skills in order to communicate with various audiences including Town Council, boards, commissions, development community, and the public. This position will work both independently and collaboratively across multiple departments with limited daily direction. Successful candidates will collaborate in a fast-paced, evolving environment and must be able to adapt to change through continuous learning while empowering others through shared knowledge. This position will involve focusing on the details while seeing the vision of Cary established in the Imagine Cary Community Plan. Demonstrated knowledge of urban design, mixed use concepts, infill, and redevelopment are desired.

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Assistant Planning Director and requires independent judgment and discretion in the performance of duties.

Anticipated hiring range: $53,976.00 – $61.214.40 depending on qualifications.

Job Candidate Qualifications

Requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in urban planning, landscape architecture or a closely related field and at least two years of work experience in professional planning. A graduate degree in a closely related field may be substituted for years of experience. Requires a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record. Preference will be given to candidates that have the following:Development plan review experience; infill and redevelopment experience; experience interpreting and researching ordinances; experience writing staff reports and making presentations to public officials; strong written and verbal presentation skills; desire to seek out, foster and implement change; desire to build collaborative groups within the organization; ability to learn and adapt in an agile environment; and ability to work on a variety of tasks while being extremely organized and detail-oriented.
