The Planner in this position is responsible for reviewing site plans and helping manage a multi-department plan review process. This position is central in encouraging quality economic development and overall improvement to the community’s attractiveness and quality of life. This planner will also be able to participate in such unique projects as a new comprehensive plan and (re)development plans around such unique projects as a $60m minor league baseball stadium/mixed-use complex, a $75m Civil War History Center, and a new historic district. Important strengths include recognition of the relationship between community goals and development objectives, the ability to read plans quickly and accurately, some training in architecture or landscaping, and the skills to explain and illustrate alternative approaches. Job Candidate Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible professional urban planning experience.
Training: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, urban design, public administration, business management or a closely related field.
Preferred: American Institute of Certified Planners and/or North Carolina Certified Zoning Official certification or similar.
