Job Details / Description

The Town of Morrisville seeks a customer service focused and visionary leader for their next Planning Director. The department will play a major role in meeting the community’s strategic goals and ensuring that new initiatives are implemented through innovative programming, funding, and creative partnerships. The new Director will be highly visible in the community and perform difficult and complex professional and administrative work in directing the current and long-range planning activities for the Town, which includes economic and community development. Reporting to the Town Manager, the planning director oversees a team of 11 full-time staff with an operating budget of approximately $1.4 million. The Town is currently managing a number of capital investment projects (CIP) related to transportation, infrastructure, revitalization and innovation.

The Planning Director and Department play a major role in these initiatives. The strategic focus of Morrisville is guided by the community vision established in Connect Morrisville Strategic Plan. The six strategic goals for Morrisville are: Improved transportation mobility; Thriving livable neighborhoods; Engaged, inclusive community; Public safety readiness; Operational excellence; and Economic prosperity. Morrisville has limited land for development and will be transitioning to a re-development in-fill approach to planning and growth. The Planning Department reviews all new residential, commercial, and industrial development to ensure consistency with Morrisville’s short-term and long-range growth plans, policies, and ordinances. Effective community education, problem solving, and flexibility are critical to delivering effective customer services to stakeholders.

The next Director will be responsible for promoting a strong community, preserving and enhancing Morrisville’s diverse neighborhoods; fostering quality environments; and involving stakeholders in planning for the town’s future. This position oversees the town’s municipal and extraterritorial jurisdiction planning functions and plays a key role in facilitating development projects through the application and administration of the Town’s planning policies in coordination with other Town departments.

The ideal candidate must exhibit the initiative to promote sound growth and development, creatively address development opportunities despite limited land availability, and balance the needs of a highly diverse citizenry in a changing economic landscape. The Planning Director appears before the Town Board, advisory boards, and public groups; serving as staff to the Board of Adjustment and the Planning Board with the goal of assisting the Town Manager in meeting the goals of the community.

The range is $88,969 – 142,350. Compensation is negotiable based upon experience and qualifications. The Town offers an excellent benefit package. More information about benefits can be found at
