The Town of Oak Ridge is seeking applicants for the position of Planning Director. Oak Ridge is located in Guilford County, just northwest of Greensboro, and is home to 7,073 residents. The Town became an incorporated municipality in 1998 and is governed by a five-member Town Council.
Oak Ridge boasts a rich history of agrarian culture and historic heritage, which includes a local historic district, the Old Mill of Guilford, and Oak Ridge Military Academy. The Planning Director will play a crucial role in the Town’s commitment to growing responsibly, which includes the implementation of recently adopted plans that call for improved walkability, open space preservation, accommodating a diversity of housing types, and the continued development of the Town Core. The Planning Director position is responsible for all administrative functions of the Planning Department, including development review, long-range planning, and code enforcement. The position also serves as staff to the Planning and Zoning Board, Board of Adjustment, and Historic Preservation Commission. Permitting and inspections are provided through contract by Guilford County.
The Town of Oak Ridge offers a competitive salary with an excellent benefits package. Full salary range for this position is $53,503 to $80,255 annually.
Job Candidate Qualifications
The position requires graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in urban planning or other related field; a Masters degree is preferred; and at least 3-5 years of professional level experience in urban planning preferably with a government entity in North Carolina; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential duties. AICP preferred.
