The North Carolina Division of Parks and Recreation is currently searching for a Planning Program Manager. This critical position is responsible for coordinating all of the North Carolina State Parks Planning activities. Responsibilities including oversee the master planning and general management processes; developing the Division’s systemwide plan; and preparing site plans for various parks throughout the system. The Division manages over 70 units with a total acreage of 230,000. This position is essential to ensure the North Carolina State Parks provides high-quality outdoor recreation for the citizens of North Carolina and their visitors. Job Candidate Qualifications
The Planning Program Manager position is located in the Natural Resources Section and is responsible for the following:
- Preparing and updating general management plans;
- Preparing and updating master plans, conceptual plans and site plans for new and existing park units;
- Supervising/coordinating contracted planning services for new and existing park units;
- Conducting comprehensive, long range planning for the State Parks System, including preparation of the Systemwide Plan.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
A master’s degree in city and regional planning and three years of experience in community planning; or graduation from a four-year college/university with a major in engineering, political science, geography, economics, or related field and five years’ experience in community planning work including completion of a formal in-service training program in community planning; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Trainee Appointment: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in engineering, political science, geography, economics, or related field.
