Located in the very convenient and attractive Research Triangle Park region on the southwest side of Raleigh in Wake County, the Town of Holly Springs offers a small-town atmosphere and the opportunities arising from healthy growth. The Principal Planner’s primary responsibility is guiding the Town in continuing the building of a high quality community by leading the Town’s long-range planning activities including downtown design and planning; development of area/corridor plans, special studies, and reports; leading or participating in teams focused on developing new plans, policies, programs, and community visualization activities; and preparing population and growth studies. The Principal Planner manages the Long Range & Current Planning Division staff and work group responsibilities and reports to the Director.

The Principal Planner will lead the Town’s long-range planning program working with a dedicated inter-departmental work team. Holly Springs is committed to growing smart and setting expectations for the future of our Town. Upcoming projects include several area plans with comprehensive public participation programs; a downtown vision, implementation and strategy plan; and a NC540 interchange master plan.

The successful candidate will be passionate, enthusiastic, constantly seek new inspiration and have a passion for urban design, planning and policy development. This position requires self-motivation, enthusiasm, and the ability to develop, build and maintain effective working relationships with employees, customers, the development community, neighborhood groups, municipal officials, various boards, Town departments and the general public.

Preference will be given to candidates that have knowledge and/or experience working with long range planning programs; technical skills in urban design, and/or landscape architecture; and graphic capabilities to promote the Town’s vision in various planning documents.

Graduation from a college or university with a degree in urban or regional planning, geography, landscape architecture, or a related field, and 5 years’ experience as a planner including local government planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must also have satisfactory supervisory experience.  AICP certification preferred.

Normal starting salary range: $55,000 – 63,000 plus a comprehensive benefits package including life, medical, and dental insurance, LGERS, and a 5% employer 401k contribution.
