Centralina Council of Governments (CCOG) seeks an energetic, self-directed individual to assist in the coordination of land use, transportation, and public engagement projects related to outcomes from the CONNECT Our Future Regional Growth Framework. Projects will primarily focus on transportation choice, including transit, freight, bike and pedestrian infrastructure, and emerging transportation technologies, as well as growth management, developing strong downtowns, healthy communities, and assisting local governments in meeting local goals.
The successful applicant will understand the importance of positive relationships with local communities and agencies in the region and exhibit strong customer service and problem-solving skills. Position requires project management skills and internal drive. This position is advertised as a part time position, up to 20 hours a week (on average), with the possibility of additional hours based on performance and project activity.
CCOG is an innovative regional planning agency located in Charlotte, NC. CCOG has a membership that includes 60+ local governments throughout the Greater Charlotte Region and works with individual communities and leads major projects that transcend local and regional boundaries.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs intermediate professional planning, research, analytical, and technical duties in the Centralina Council of Governments’ Planning Department. The planner will manage and work within teams on a variety of planning initiatives, will plan and coordinate meetings, workshops, and other events, will research trends and emerging issues on program activities, prepare and present reports and program recommendations, clearly communicate internally and externally on program areas, and provide technical assistance in a variety of planning areas. Successful candidate must have a thorough knowledge of principles and practices of planning as applied to transportation and land use planning systems and processes as well as general planning principles. A general knowledge of government, laws, and services pertinent to planning processes is expected as well as the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff at the federal, state, regional, local levels, and elected officials; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to lead various meetings and events, make presentations and answer questions at public or project meetings; ability to prepare or coordinate the preparation of presentations, charts, maps, graphs, and other illustrative materials; ability to perform a variety of duties including research, drafting plans and reports, grant development and administration, etc.; and ability to read and interpret topographical and other maps. Demonstration of project management and/or graphic design skills desired.

Job Candidate Qualifications:
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a field of study in planning, public policy, urban design, public administration, or related field and at least three years of experience; or a Master’s degree in planning, public administration or related field and at least two years of experience. Applicants with additional experience may qualify for the Senior Planner position. AICP highly encouraged.
Hiring Salary: $25 – $35 per hour depending on qualifications and experience.
Position requires possession of a valid driver’s license. Position also requires the ability to physically perform the functions of standing, walking, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions and the ability to lift 20 pounds of force occasionally. In addition, the position requires the visual acuity to be able to prepare data, proof work, and do extensive reading.
