This position is responsible for coordinating the transportation planning processes for the Peanut Belt Rural Planning Organization (PBRPO) and serving as a staff member to the Rural Technical Coordinating and the Rural Transportation Advisory Committees with Halifax, Bertie, Hertford, and Northampton Counties. Other duties include developing long-range local and regional multi-modal transportation plans in cooperation with the North Carolina Department of Transportation and PBRPO members, including the annual Planning Work Program (PWP); performing work on community planning and development projects, including travel throughout the four county region and meetings outside the region. This position also conducts general and transportation planning research and surveys; analyzes and builds databases; and performs related tasks as required.

The hiring range for this position is $ 35,425 – $44,853. Halifax County provides a comprehensive employee benefits package, including membership in the N.C. Local Government Employees’ Retirement System

Job Candidate Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with bachelor’s degree in planning, geography, civil engineering or related field. Preference: thorough understanding of modern planning principles and practices and of the social and economic implications of planning; understanding of transportation planning concepts, methodology, and legislation.
