The Senior Planner will perform difficult professional and skilled technical work developing, coordinating and implementing a variety of planning activities and programs, preparing policies and performing special planning studies. Researches and conducts planning analysis of project proposals to determine consistency with the comprehensive plan and land development regulations; reviews development and related land use permit applications, site plans, subdivision plats, variance applications, etc.; examines applications for compliance with established plans and ordinances, and applicable local, state or federal regulation; prepares and presents staff reports at public meetings as required; assists the public with applications and inquiries; gathers, assimilates, interprets and analyzes a variety of socio-economic, demographic and other data and information pertaining to long-range plan; preparation of long-range land use and transportation plans, including small area plans; undertakes a variety of special projects and studies requiring the use of technical knowledge such as grant applications, geographic information systems and maintenance; maintains census and demographic data; disseminates data to interested parties; provides data analysis as requested; provides technical and professional advice to staff, boards, commissions, civic groups and the general public; supervises and delegates work to planner and planning technician; conducts performance review evaluations of staff under supervision; performs related tasks as required. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Planning Director.

Salary information: $53,098 – $82,302

Job Candidate Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in urban planning or a related field and 3 to 5 years professional experience in urban planning or community development activities. Preference may be given to applicants possessing a Master’s degree and/or AICP certification.
