The City of Fayetteville is looking for a qualified individual to fulfill the role of Senior Planner. The Senior Planner in this position will serve as the liaison to the Historic Resources Commission and be responsible for recommendations concerning major works Certificates of Appropriateness (COA) and for issuing minor works COAs. The planner in this position has a leadership role in the community in maintaining the two dynamic historic districts areas (Downtown and an historic village area) and overseeing special projects including updating guidelines and inventories and establishing new districts. Important strengths include a familiarity with design features, construction techniques and materials and the skills to explain and illustrate alternative approaches. Job Candidate Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in urban planning, landscape architecture, public policy or a related field.
Training: Equivalent to a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in planning, urban design, public administration, business management or a related field.
LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS
Preferred: AICP, ASLA, AIA, CZO, or similar; or an additional 2 years of responsible, directly related experience.
From the time of closing, the hiring process is anticipated to last 6 weeks. The process will consist of a panel interview with the successful candidate being subject to a pre-employment drug screen, background check and driving history check.
