Job Candidate Qualifications
The Town of Wake Forest seeks an energetic and team oriented individual for the position of Transportation Planning Manager. An employee in this class is responsible for the planning and development of transportation-related programs and direct supervision of transportation planning personnel. Work involves high-level professional planner responsibilities in the formation, installation, modification and improvement of the Town’s transportation program. The ideal candidate will recommend transportation planning policies for approval, consult with officials of local governments, state, MPO and the federal government to coordinate all phases of the town’s transportation planning; assist with the development and implementation of the town’s transportation related plans such as bicycle, pedestrian, transportation and open space and greenways; prepare public presentations and materials and coordinate with state, county, municipal, transit agencies, and community groups. Participating as a member of the Technical Review Committee for review of development plans will be required. The successful candidate will also administer the Town’s Locally Administered Projects Program (LAPP); conduct field work to achieve transportation related project objectives and needs; and serve as staff liaison to assigned advisory boards. This position requires assisting the Greenways Advisory Board in event planning, as well as coordinating and implementing tasks for those events. Work is supervised by the Planning Director and is evaluated through conferences, reports, and progress on assigned duties, planning projects and efforts. Graduation from a four-year college or university with a major in urban and regional planning, transportation planning, geography, landscape architecture or related field with considerable professional planning experience in the transportation field, including supervisory experience. A master’s degree in urban planning or related field is preferred. AICP certification is required or the ability to be obtained within one year of employment. Hours of work: Monday- Friday, 8:00am- 5:00pm. Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications. The Town offers an excellent benefits package.
